Promote products & services via chat request windows. Free for Premium Accounts!

Written by: Categories: Features

You will see that free accounts have a little more branding of OCC by Motava in the chat windows; however, to turn these off and to acquire that advertisement space, all you have to do is to upgrade to Premium Version of OCC.

We do want to encourage our customers to upgrade to premium version so that we may better serve them. Aside from service/support, we also wish to continue to make OCC much better. We have loads of ideas that have been collected, and many of them are from our users. In fact, in the last 30 days, many of your own feature requests have been implemented.

We are always interested in your ideas, so please feel free to leave your feedback directly to our development team.

We are not doing this for a profit, rather the cost of only $29.95 per year for Premium Version is to assist us in our expenses for offering the entire user base a very stable, solid, cost efficient and effective hosted solution with no strings attached.

Furthermore, this guarantees the longevity and further development of OCC. As our popularity intensifies, it requires the highest end of hosting and bandwidth to ensure that you have the service you need at all times with sustainable performance.

We hope you can understand our position and will find that by upgrading to Premium Version, you will not only gain this advertisement space within your account’s request windows, but gain free technical support, advanced reporting, and nearly 20% discounts on other features.

In fact, we are currently developing an entirely new add-on module which will be free for all premium version users. So, the benefits will continue as we continue to develop.

Occupying those banner positions to promote your business

If you would wish to occupy those banner positions within your own account, to promote product offerings, specials/sales, sub-ads, whatever…. you can enable this customization for absolutely FREE as a Premium Version account. To upgrade now, log in to the admin panel, click Design Customization, then Customizable Banner Advertisements.

Thank you and we hope you continue to enjoy OnlineChatCenters! Don’t forget to follow us on twitter.

SaaS: Subscriptions vs. Ad-Driven vs. One-time Purchases

Written by: Categories: Features,Uncategorized
November 17th, 2009

The above title displays, generally speaking, the 3 main monetization methods found in/on SaaS (Software as a Service) websites. Many have asked which are the most efficient to use.

Welcome to my first OCC blog post. I am Victor Bilandzic.

Subscriptions, as implied by the name, are recurring fees, normally monthly or yearly, to use the service or upgrade the account. Subscriptions are most helpful in covering site running costs over time. If a customer cancels their subscription or account after the period has ended, the service should no longer bear the cost of having this user and the customer no longer bears the cost of paying (unlike the one-time fee, whose cost is spread over the life of the product). In the case of OnlineChatCenters, our subscribing customers pay for our costs to host the service and the additional features they subscribe to.

Advertisement-driven sites generally offer their services for free, covering hosting and development expenses through in-software or in-site banner, text, video, and pop-up ads. The online equivalent of local TV channels for you old school money-makers.

One-time purchases are just that – one time add-ons, upgrades, or basic usage. These are considered the least desirable for SaaS sites for they do not pay for the ongoing usage of their site by the consumer. Instead, costs for the LIFE of that user must be calculated into the one-time fee, making them more costly than subscriptions to the customer up front. One-time purchases are risky for SaaS sites at the same time if they price the product too low and are unable to cover costs for the life of their customers. Revenues stop at the first payment, but costs for hosting and development may continue. Charging for updates in the future to cover these further costs also tend to leave a bad taste in customers’ mouths, leaving them asking “how many more updates am I going to have to pay for?” and “is the update really worth it?”

For OCC, we’ve developed a combination of the first two monetization techniques. Free customers are (partially) paid for by our advertisers; in offering 1 user and 1 department for free, we also have the added benefit of killing two birds with one stone by not requiring the added programming and hassle of trial accounts. Upgrades to accounts are done through subscriptions, which can be canceled or renewed at the end of the subscription period. Use the software for as long as you need and cover our expenses to host and develop for you as long as we need: the name of the game. We also have provided the added convenience of prorating any subscriptions you add to your account at a later time so your subscription/expiration date for all features is always the same.

We have purposely excluded one-time purchases to ensure we cover hosting and development expenses for life and ensuring our users always have the most up-to-date version of our services, included in both the free and upgraded packages. The message is one-time purchases, as software moves online and away from local or network hosting, will eventually die. For all soon-to-be or future SaaS sites, consider moving to subscription-based upgrades, advertisements (but delicately keep them out of everyone’s face; future post on in-site no-no’s coming soon) or other ongoing payment options. What other unique payment options are available?

Customizing the Request Form…Alert: New Features Available Today!

Written by: Categories: Features

One of the great features to OCC is the customizing of the request for chat form.

Several of our Premium users have requested more ability to this design customization feature. Now you will find that we have included 4 more field types to the request form customizing.

1. Plain text: With this field type you can add a caption before before or after a form field. Basically this is just text that you can use for instructions, important notes, or maybe even tooltips explaining what kind of information you would like to have the user add to the above or below field.

2. Next is the Radio Button. Others like to call these the True/False Bubbles. These are the little circles from which you can toggle between when asking someone for a yes or no answer.

3. We’ve also added a Date Picker. It’s a calendar that the requester can select a date if you so require to have them choose one.

4. File Upload. Maybe your service or product requires that the requester uploads a file.

*** Also an important feature is that we now support an individual request form per department.

Thank you for choosing OCC.

Why are there Departments and why do you refer to them also as websites?

We have designed this product to be scalable so that it is flexible with your business growth and diverse needs.

Multiple Departments

One unique way to look at departments is like Chat Rooms. If you choose to have multiple departments, you can navigate your requester into particular areas of interest, such as: Pre Sales, Technical Support, Billing, Returns, etc.

Each of these departments can have their own individual code.

For example:
Let’s say we started a new company. It is called: Tom’s Kitchen Supplies

For most of the site, I will want all the visitors to choose which department they would like to chat with. So, I created 3. The first one was free and the additional two I purchased.
They are named: Pre Sales, Order Services and Corporate Accounts.

At my site, TomsKitchen.xyz I have placed the Whole Company generated HTML on all the pages, except for the Corporate Section of the website.

Now, if any visitor requests a chat, he or she will see three departments to choose from:
1. Pre sales
2. Order Services
3. Corporate Accounts

***But, I don’t want regular customers to see the Corporate Accounts Department.
So, I will go to my OCC Admin Console, Setup–>Settings–>Basic Setup–>Departments
I will then check the box for HIDDEN at the department Corporate Accounts.

Now all visitors, when click chat icon, will see only
1. Pre sales
2. Order Services

So what about the Corporate Section of the website you ask?

Well, for this section I will generate different HTML. I will generate HTML for the Department: Corporate Accounts.

Now, on the pages part of the Corporate Section of the website, the visitor will go directly to the request for chat form of the Corporate Accounts department.

Multiple Websites

Just as we were able to generate HTML for a particular department, we can also treat these departments as websites.

For example:

I now have a new business. In fact, I sell many things that have nothing to do with each other.
I sell: Bicycles, Computer Hardware and Auto Parts.
Welcome to: OCC Import/Export

I have a website for each of these products I sell.

occ-bikes.xyz
occ-computers.xyz
and
occ-autoparts.xyz

I am a one-man-operation. And I would like to monitor and support all three websites from one sibgle application, OCC Agent.

To do this, I use the one free department for occ-bikes and purchase one additional for each of the other sites. Total = 3

In the OCC Admin Console, I create all three departments. In fact, each have their own unique logo.

I then Generate HTML for each department individually and paste the code at their respective websites.

Now, from my OCC Agent, I am able to support each website using one agent application and I will know from which department (website) each request is coming from.

We hope that this has assisted you in understand more how or system works and can benefit your business efforts.
